Taught by Cal Patch. Four 2-hour classes, $120

E-mail us to be notified when this class is scheduled again. Or, gather a group of friends and we can schedule one for you! Private lessons can also be arranged.

Sewing is a very useful skill! Whether your goals are practical or creative, we will get you over the intimidation of sewing on your own machine by completing your first sewing project. In this class we will learn how the sewing machine works, how to cut from a simple pattern, and basic sewing skills (seams, hems, pockets, straps and buttonholes). You will have the option of making either a wrap skirt or a lined tote bag.

Supplies:

– sewing machine

fabric [for wrap skirt*: 2 yards, OR for tote: 1/2 yard outer and 1/2 yard lining] Recommended fabrics for both projects are: any basic woven, printed or solid cottons, denim, twill.

thread to match

– sharp fabric-cutting scissors

– pins and pincushion

– seam ripper

– *wrap skirt also requires one package double-fold bias tape to match

NOTE: You will need all supplies at the first class session, as we will cut out our projects and begin some ‘practice’ sewing.
